Name Your Altarનમૂનો

Naming the Place of Surrender
Abraham’s altar wasn’t built in a moment of triumph but in a solitary place of obedience and anguish. Asked to surrender his son, Abraham faced the loss of his future, his promise, and his joy. Yet in that moment of obedience, God provided a ram. The altar became a testimony: The Lord Will Provide. When that happened, Abraham didn’t just move on. He marked the place, naming it so future generations would know the story of God’s faithfulness.
This story may or may not be familiar to you, but the feeling probably is. We all go through times in our faith when God asks us to open our hands and offer something that feels like more than we can give. He may ask us to lay down a dream we had for our future, a relationship we’ve clung to, or unforgiveness we’ve carried too long. The decision we make in that moment can be pivotal for our faith. Will we move forward and obey, even though we don’t have the details? The Christian answer is yes. But in real life, surrender feels costly in the moment. God wouldn’t need to ask us to offer Him something that doesn’t matter to us. We could do that easily.
But when He gives you the opportunity to trust Him with something that matters deeply, that’s a decision you make in faith.
Our deepest altars are often born in private sorrow, in agony that’s just between us and God. But those moments of silent surrender are often where God shows up and provides extravagantly. Those moments deserve a name. They remind us that surrender doesn’t always end in loss; it opens the door to God’s miraculous provision.
Make it personal
When have you surrendered something to God and seen Him provide? Or perhaps you’re in one of those seasons right now. You might be on the edge of surrender, and you haven’t yet seen the provision. Name it and write it down. Put it somewhere you’ll see often, and let it preach to your soul and to the next generation the faithfulness of God.

About this Plan

All throughout scripture, God’s people marked defining moments with altars, naming them to remember His provision, peace, and power. This 4-day plan invites you to do the same. As you reflect on Abraham, Moses, Gideon, and Samuel, you’ll be encouraged to see God’s faithfulness in your own story and mark the places where He’s met you.
