REFRAME: GOD IS STILL WRITING THE STORY
Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good...
Mindful Minute
When the relationship didn’t work out, disillusionment flooded in. There was no backup plan, only dreams of building a life together, raising a family, and being in love and loved in return.
You didn’t choose single motherhood. You never envisioned court dates, strained exchanges, or grocery runs that test your budget. You pictured a shared life, not doing it all alone.
Now, the reality hits daily. The to-do list is relentless. You brush teeth, help with homework, rotate tires, clock in at work, stretch every dollar, and try to put healthy meals on the table. You care for your child’s grieving heart while yours quietly aches too.
Who comforts you? Who tends to the caretaker?
It’s easy in this space to believe a different story: That your best days are behind you. That God has forgotten your sacrifices. That you’re left alone and cleaning up someone else’s mess.
But here’s where God invites a shift, not to dismiss the pain, but to find purpose in it.
Joseph in Genesis 50 had every reason to grow bitter. He was betrayed by family, enslaved, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Yet years later, face-to-face with those who wronged him, he didn’t hold onto the pain. He said, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
You didn’t ask for this heartbreak, rejection, or loneliness. But God is not done with your story. What others meant to harm you, He is repurposing for your good.
Even if an earthly father walks away, your Heavenly Father never will. And neither will He leave you.
So how can you reframe life when it still feels broken?
Try these heart shifts:
- From abandoned to anchored. Others may walk out, but God never does. He is the anchor holding you steady.
- From overlooked to chosen. Your sacrifices may go unseen, but heaven notices. You are not invisible to God.
- From damaged to destined. This chapter doesn’t define you. Just as Joseph rose to purpose, you too are being positioned for impact—even through the pain.
Reframing isn’t denial—it’s divine perspective. It’s saying, “This hurts, but I trust God is working through it.”
Your child may one day look back and see a mom who didn’t give up, who chose love over bitterness, and who let God into the mess instead of pushing Him away. Through your faithfulness, they will glimpse God’s.
What the enemy meant to break you, God is using to build you. When your soul is greatly troubled (Psalm 6:3), when you feel hopeless, the Lord promises to be your “refuge and strength, a present help in time of trouble,” (Psalm 46:1).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I didn’t expect life to look like this. Some days, the weight feels like too much. But I believe You are still writing my story. Reframe my pain into purpose. Help me see with spiritual eyes that even what was meant for harm, You can use for good. Walk with me in every high and low. Teach me to trust You with what I don’t understand, and to believe healing, hope, and joy still await. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
