Freedom Made Simple

DAY 5 OF 5

Love is a Weapon

Take a moment to think of how you have understood deliverance. What have you seen or been taught that has led you to think the way you do? If you surround yourself with people who are looking for demons, you will find demons. If you surround yourself with people who have found freedom, you will find freedom.

Deliverance is a way of life. It's understanding you are free and living from freedom, rather than towards freedom. Remember, you were created in God's image, to be like Him (Genesis 1:26 NLT). You share the divine nature of God (2 Peter 1:4 NLT). You have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16 NLT), and the Spirit of Christ lives within you (John 15:4 NLT). These are powerful statements in the Bible, spoken by people who have learned this first-hand. Words that flowed from their story. They weren't theories, but words to live by.

Underpinning them all is the great command of Jesus, "Love each other in the same way I have loved you." John 15:12 (NLT). At one point, Jesus was asked, "“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”" Matthew 22:36-40 (NLT). Love is the foundation stone of the Kingdom of God. Jesus modelled it and invited us to follow Him in it. Deliverance without love is like prophecy without love; it's a "noisy gong or a clanging cymbal." 1 Corinthians 13:1 (NLT).

Take another moment to think about what love has done in your life. Where does it instantly appear when you think of it? What feelings flow through your mind and body? What responses come from you when you encounter it?

The weapon that love is invites you to be free from fear, shame, and condemnation. When you feel loved, there is a freedom that surrounds you, and it draws you into a life lived in its design.

To feel this is to understand the power of love and all it can do in your life. When you reflect on Jesus' life, you will see demons fleeing and freedom manifesting itself. You will see blindness disappearing and joy filling the hearts of most who witnessed it. You will see tax collectors being welcomed at Jesus' tables and the lepers cared for. His love knew no bounds, because it had no bounds. His love undid their religious arguments and empowered the voiceless.

Jesus has placed His love in you. When He invited you to abide in Him, and for His love to take up residence in your life, your body became a vessel of His love, and you are invited to pour out that love. Could it be that the love you carry is all that is needed to help those around you find the freedom they were designed for?

Activation:

Imagine yourself in a place that has brought you life in the past, a memory that brings up joy. Allow your breathing to slow down and ground yourself in that memory. If life came to you in it, then Jesus is somewhere to be found within the memory. Invite Him to come and sit with you. Invite Him to speak or reach out to you. This is deliverance. It's not complicated. Even a child could understand it.

Read:

Read 1 Corinthians 2 and find one verse that stands out or speaks to you. Record it with the other four. Now read them together. What is the theme that runs through them all? Could it be that God has just spoken to you through the Bible?
