Look again

I can’t even count how many times I’ve buried my face in embarrassment while searching for something around the house, only to have Jenny walk in, glance around, and find it instantly.

It’s almost like the lost item magically appears the moment she steps in! Has that ever happened to you? You’re frantically looking for something that’s right in front of your eyes, yet somehow, you can’t see it.

A similar moment unfolded with Elisha’s servant in 2 Kings 6. Fear gripped him—understandably so—when he woke up one morning to discover that a powerful enemy army, sent to capture them, surrounded their city.

From a human perspective, it was hopeless. They were outnumbered, outpowered, and seemingly destined for defeat. But Elisha saw something different. When the servant cried out in fear, Elisha replied with calm confidence:

“Don’t be afraid… Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” – 2 Kings 6:16 NIV

What an extraordinary statement! To the servant’s eyes, there were no allies in sight — only danger. So Elisha prayed a simple yet powerful prayer:

“Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” – 2 Kings 6:17 NIV

And in that moment, everything changed. God opened the servant’s spiritual eyes, and he saw what had been there all along — hills full of horses and chariots of fire, the heavenly armies of God surrounding and protecting them.

This story reminds us that God is always at work, even when we can’t see it. Just because something is invisible doesn’t mean it’s not real. Just because you feel surrounded by problems doesn’t mean God’s presence and power do not also surround you.

Here’s your challenge for today:

Ask God to open your spiritual eyes — not just to what’s in front of you, but to what’s behind and above it. Heaven is fighting for you. You are not alone. You are not outnumbered. You are surrounded by God’s love, defended by His angels, and upheld by His promises.
