Jesus’ Miracles
AD 27–30
Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John
~ Before Jesus performed miracles, we did not know the extent of God’s compassion for our human condition or fathom His power over sickness and pain.
Jesus’ miracles touch every human need, displaying His divine authority over nature, sickness, spirits, and even death itself. He calmed raging seas with a word, showing mastery over creation; He healed the blind, lame, and leprous, revealing compassion for the broken; He cast out demons, declaring victory over darkness; He multiplied bread and fish, meeting the hunger of thousands; and He raised the dead, offering a glimpse of resurrection power. Each miracle is more than an act of mercy—it is a signpost pointing to His true identity as the Son of God and the hope of eternal life.
~ In the aftermath of Jesus’s miracles, the disciples believed more deeply, but the crowds were divided. Some were moved to faith and belief that He was the Messiah. Others fell into controversy. The religious leaders were infuriated and afraid.
Significance
- Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, and raised the dead because His heart was full of mercy. It still is.
- As Jesus demonstrated a ministry of compassionately praying and caring for others in their need—physical emotional, and spiritual. His disciples are still called to this ministry.
- Jesus’ miracles weren’t just acts of power; they called people to believe He was the Messiah and follow Him wholeheartedly. They still do.
