Ocean–Holder

Today’s verse is one of those that helps us (though it’s impossible!) to wrap our minds around just how mighty, enormous, infinite, and awesome our God is. He created the universe and everything in it. He knows the number of grains of sand on every beach, and He holds the oceans that send waves crashing onto every shore.

Unfortunately, as we get caught up in the humdrum routines of our lives, we can easily lose our sense of awe and wonder at God’s magnificence. I know when I’m going through something that seems relatively insignificant, I tend to doubt God’s engagement in it, or I just don’t think about taking it to Him. Likewise, when I think the situation I’m facing is too big, I might think it’s too much even for God. Then I read verses like this and I’m reminded of His vastness and my smallness. Ironically, when I consider how the tiny part I play in God’s story is minuscule compared to His overwhelming power and presence, it’s then that I’m able to humbly, gratefully accept the life He pours into me. In other words, my view of God directly influences my ability to take hold of abundant life.

My brain can’t begin to fathom how incredible it is that I know the God who holds the oceans in His hand! But, knowing He did, and does, brings me peace. I don’t need to know the how; I only need to know the why. And the why is simply because He can. Has your view of God been too small lately? Have you sensed yourself putting the Creator of galaxies into a box? During today’s workout, call to mind the truth that the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, everywhere-always God is at work in your life 24/7. He is the ocean-holder who can certainly hold you and whatever you’re carrying.
