“30 Pictures of Jesus” 30 Day Plan

DAY 21 OF 30

Today we see Jesus as the New Adam.

When God made Adam, he intended him to live for God’s glory and spread life to the world. As God’s image-bearer, Adam was meant to reflect God’s goodness, multiply God’s likeness, and extend God’s reign across creation. Humanity was created to participate in God’s glory for the good of the whole world.

But Adam rejected God’s glory. He chose his own way instead of God’s way, and in doing so he brought sin and death into the world (Romans 5:12). And we are all in Adam. His story is ours. We share his body of sin and death, repeating his choice to rebel against God and falling short of the glory we were created for (Romans 3:23). Adam lives on in us, and unless something changes, his destiny—condemnation and death—will be ours too. Adam in us needs to die.

This is what God has done in Jesus. On the cross and in the resurrection, the entire story of Adam was brought to its end. Adam’s disobedience led the whole world to death, but Jesus’ obedience opened a new way of being human (Romans 5:15–19). His death was the death of Adam’s humanity. His resurrection was the beginning of a new humanity. At that moment, the reign of sin and death was broken, and the reign of grace and life began (Romans 5:17, 21).

This means that the turning point for humanity has already happened. It is not first about what we feel or do; it is about what Jesus has already done. A new world was born when he walked out of the tomb. Humanity has been transferred from Adam’s line of death into Christ’s line of life.

This is good news. In Adam, all humanity was trapped under sin and destined for death. But in Jesus, the New Adam, humanity itself has been re-created. Now, everyone who trusts in him shares in this cosmic victory. His death becomes our death. His life becomes our life. His glory becomes our hope.
