Praying for the Global Work of Bible Translation

DAY 2 OF 7

God, Your Word is more precious than all I possess. (Psalm 19:7-11)

A pastor stands before his congregation. He clutches tattered pages of the Gospel of John—ripped from a single Bible shared among many villages. The words are in English, but he preaches the Gospel as best he can for his people to understand in their own tongue. They hang on the edge of their seats to every word.

It’s convicting, isn’t it? Imagining the millions still waiting for Scripture in a language they think, dream, and pray in is a powerful reminder: God’s Word really is the most precious thing we possess.

In one sense, God speaks to us everywhere–even beyond the Bible. As Psalm 19:1-2 declares:

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.

But the Holy Spirit speaking to us through the Scriptures is one of the most profound ways of transformation. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible points to Jesus—our never-ending source of wisdom, salvation, and transformation. It speaks to us right where we are. It is new every morning.

As Psalm 19 goes on to declare, God’s Word refreshes our souls. It makes us wise. It brings joy to our hearts. It gives light to our eyes.

When Bible translations arrive, entire communities change–now and for eternity.

That’s why partners in the illumiNations movement have committed their all to this one important goal: Providing all people access to God’s Word in our lifetime.

Imagine the global impact as previously unreached language groups receive the Good News! How many lives will transform as Scripture reaches waiting hands around the world? What changes will we witness as entire communities encounter the Word of God in our lifetime?

Father, we thank You for the power of Your Word. It is truly more precious than all we possess. We ask that You move mightily in the work of Scripture translation, so that those who are still waiting for Scripture in their own language can experience the transformation that’s available through Your Scripture alone—for individuals, communities, and the nations. In Jesus’ name, amen.
