4 - LORD'S PRAYER - the Servant's Petitions

DAY 5 OF 16

05 – My Debts

“Forgive us our debts…” (Matthew 6:12, NIV)

“Father, forgive us our debts.” These may be the most important words we ever speak—if we speak them sincerely. It is through God’s forgiveness that the crushing weight of guilt finally falls from our shoulders. And once we are free from that burden, our hearts are light enough to be fully embraced by His unconditional love and complete acceptance.

Jesus Himself promises: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV) That is exactly what took place when the father welcomed the prodigal son home in search of forgiveness.

The son never realized that, throughout his entire absence, he had already been forgiven. He didn’t understand that his father’s love and care had never diminished—not even in the face of his rebellion and reckless choices.

Forgiveness was not given because the son suddenly reformed his behavior, nor because the father suddenly decided to pardon him. The forgiveness had been there all along—it only became real when the son returned home, confessed his sins, and received his father’s gracious mercy.

This is God’s very nature—His character is to forgive those who seek Him with a heart that longs for mercy. As the Lord Himself declares:
“Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18, NIV)

About this Plan

4 - LORD'S PRAYER - the Servant's Petitions

We have already reflected on how we should pray and we have already talked about the Lord's demands. Now, let’s talk about the Servant’s Petitions. The first part of the Lord’s Prayer focuses on the Lord God. In the second part, beginning with "give us this day our daily bread," the prayer takes a turn and begins to address topics such as hunger, evil, temptation, and other issues. Shall we talk about that? Edilaney, from Brazil!!!
