Created as an Introvert

DAY 3 OF 3

Introvert, You Are Enough

As an introvert, one of the lies I find myself sometimes battling is, “I don’t have enough . . .” Maybe you can relate? The way I finish the sentence depends on the day.

I don’t have enough energy.

I don’t have enough words.

I don’t have enough _______________.

So, how can we change what we say to ourselves?

I’ve been thinking of the story from the Gospels when Jesus feeds a huge crowd. As evening comes, the disciples tell him to dismiss everyone for a dinner break.

There’s no fast-food restaurant nearby, so Jesus responds that the disciples can feed the people. They protest, “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” (Matt. 14:17 NLT).

One phrase sounds familiar to me: “But we have only . . .” In other words, “We don’t have enough.” The disciples respond this way because they see only the human side of the situation.

But Jesus looks beyond this to the deeper reality. What if we pause and shift our perspective as introverts, too? In my life, that sounds like . . .

I don’t have enough energy to do everything, but I have enough for what God is asking me to do today.

I don’t have enough words to talk nonstop, but I have enough to make meaningful connections.

I don’t have enough strength to be all things to all people, but I have enough to love well and fulfill God’s purpose for me.

What would your version be? If what we have to offer feels as small as five loaves and two fish, that’s okay. It’s not how much we have that matters; it’s Whose hands we place it in today.

You, introvert, have strengths, skills, and gifts to offer this world. You’re a quiet, powerful presence who’s needed more than ever before.

You have the capacity for meaningful connections, deep thinking, and embracing soul-filling solitude.

Not only do you have enough, but you are enough. The God who spoke the world into being also knows your name, numbers every hair on your head, and understands every care in your heart.

So, introvert, dare to be who God created you to be. Trust that he will fulfill his purpose for your life. With Jesus, what you have to offer will be exactly what someone needs today.

God, I place who I am and all I have in your hands today. With you, I have enough. Because of you, I am enough. You are my supplier and multiplier. Amen.

What can you place in the hands of Jesus today?
