Day 15 – Offense Is a Trap—But for Whom?
Devotional
Conflict often begins when we take offense, but Jesus teaches us a different way. While offenses will happen, He warns strongly against causing others to stumble or be offended (Matthew 18:6). More importantly, Jesus warns us not to stay trapped by offense. Using vivid language, He urges us to “cut off” whatever causes us to remain offended, because offense is a trap that ensnares the one who takes it, not the one who caused it.
Though it feels justified to hold onto offense, doing so keeps us stuck in a wildfire of anger and self-justification. Instead, Jesus calls us to focus on His Peacefire—letting go of offense, receiving His mercy, and opening the door to healing and transformation. Choosing not to remain offended frees us to respond with grace and peace, breaking the cycle of conflict.
Reflection Question:
Is there an offense you’re holding onto that’s keeping you trapped? How might you invite Jesus’ peace to help you release it?
Prayer:
Lord, help me recognize the trap of offense and give me the strength to let it go. Teach me to walk in Your peace instead of the wildfire of anger and judgment. Free me from bitterness and help me forgive as You have forgiven me. Amen.
