All That Glitters: What the Bible Teaches Us About Avoiding Financial Trapsનમૂનો

God doesn’t want you living in bondage to money. He wants you walking in freedom, purpose, and peace. It’s super easy to be tempted by the glitter of financial success--fancy cars, high-status lifestyles, and the next big investment opportunity. But not all that glitters is gold. Some of the most enticing financial decisions can lead us down paths of anxiety, debt, and spiritual disconnection if we’re not wise.
Welcome to Day 1, The Glitter Trap: When Wealth Looks Like Success!
We often chase after what sparkles—money, status, possessions—believing they’ll bring us meaning or purpose. But Proverbs 23 warns us not to wear ourselves out trying to get rich. Riches are fleeting. And in Luke 12, Jesus reminds us plainly: life is not measured by how much we own.
Success in God’s eyes isn’t about our bank account or the car we drive, but about the posture of our hearts. It’s easy to assume that if we just had more—more money, more influence, more things—we’d finally feel secure and confident. But often, what looks like success is simply a shiny trap that drains our time, energy, and peace.
Think of the rich fool in Luke 12:16–21. He built bigger barns to store his wealth, believing it would sustain him. But God called him–wait for it– foolish—not because he was wealthy, but because he failed to be “rich toward God.”
Chasing earthly success without spiritual wisdom will always leave us feeling drained and empty. Real abundance starts when we seek God first and stop measuring our worth by fleeting Earthly standards.
Please, clear your head and open as we end today’s devotional in prayer.
Lord, help me see through the glitter of worldly success. Teach me to value what You value. Let my worth not be in what I own but in who I am in You. Redirect my heart toward eternal treasures, not temporary ones. Amen.
Journal prompt:
Write down three “golden” things you’ve been chasing lately—possessions, goals, or lifestyle upgrades. Ask yourself: What is driving my desire for these things—God or cultural pressure?
