Why You Check Your Phone 96 Times a Day—and the Biblical System That Breaks the Cycle

DAY 3 OF 3

A faithful steward doesn't just manage money—they manage every resource God has entrusted to them. Including their attention.

You wouldn't hire a financial advisor who let strangers randomly withdraw money from your account. Yet you've given tech companies unlimited access to withdraw your attention whenever they want.

It's time to become the faithful steward of your own focus.

Biblical stewardship has three key principles that apply perfectly to attention management:

Intentionality: A good steward makes deliberate choices rather than defaulting to whatever's easiest. Instead of mindlessly picking up your phone, decide in advance when and why you'll engage with technology.

Boundaries: Wise stewards set limits. Create sacred spaces and times where technology doesn't intrude—meals, bedtime, family time, prayer time. Your attention needs Sabbath rest just like your body does.

Purpose: Everything a steward manages should align with their master's goals. Before engaging with digital content, ask: "Does this serve God's purposes for my life, or is it just entertaining my flesh?"

The result of faithful attention stewardship isn't restriction—it's freedom.

Freedom to be fully present with loved ones. Freedom to hear God's voice without competing notifications. Freedom to focus deeply on work that matters. Freedom to experience peace instead of perpetual digital anxiety.

Moses prayed that God would teach us to "number our days." In our digital age, we might pray: "Teach us to number our moments of attention, that we may invest them wisely."

You have roughly 16 waking hours today.

That's 960 minutes of attention to steward faithfully. How will you invest this irreplaceable resource?

Starting today, I challenge you to treat your attention like the precious gift it is.

Set boundaries that protect it.

Use it intentionally rather than reactively.

And watch how faithful stewardship of your focus transforms every other area of your life.

Your attention is your life. Steward it like the treasure it is.

If you're ready to take stewardship beyond just finances and into every area of your life, I'd love to give you a copy of my award-winning book 'Simple Money, Rich Life'. It's packed with biblical strategies to steward all your resources—time, money, and attention—for maximum kingdom impact.
