You’re right. There’s so much to enjoy, embrace and puzzle over in 1 John 4. From ‘God is love’ to Jesus as our atoning sacrifice for sins, we could spend yonks sifting through these wonderful truths.
Another significant aspect of 1 John 4 is unity. Do a slow joyride through today’s passage and notice it declares what we are ‘in’. Often, we talk about what we are united by or what we are all about. We can come together around a sporting team or favourite novel, or a social justice campaign might be our bond.
But 1 John 4 presents the pinnacle of unity. The heartwarming language of ‘we live in him and he in us’ (verse 13) assures us of a shared existence within the loving relationship of God and His Son Jesus. How about that? Take time to thank God for being infused into the ultimate union of love.
