Minor Prophets, Major Truths - Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah & Nahum

DAY 28 OF 31

Introduction to Nahum

The book of Nahum is a prophetic declaration of God’s judgment against the city of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. Though the people of Nineveh had repented during Jonah’s time, they eventually returned to violence, cruelty, and pride. Nahum’s message comes over a century later, announcing that God has seen their injustice and will no longer overlook their sin.

This book is both sobering and reassuring. To the oppressed, it brings hope: God is not blind to evil, and He will act. To the powerful who misuse their authority, it is a warning: no one is beyond accountability. Nahum declares, “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him” (Nahum 1:7, NLT).

While Nahum focuses on judgment, it also reveals the consistent character of God—He is just, patient, and a defender of those who suffer. The downfall of Nineveh shows that evil does not have the final word.

Nahum invites us to trust in God’s justice and find comfort in His strength, even when the world around us seems dark.
