DAY 5 OF 10

Day 5: Psalm 119:65–96

In their line of work, health professionals must often cause damage to their patients to address a larger, more threatening issue. Surgery, for instance, always requires a doctor to inflict harm to create long-term health. Yet, the doctor is not considered cruel—he or she is committed to removing what would ultimately threaten a patient’s livelihood. God acts in much the same way in our lives, as we’ll see in this session.

Reflect

In this psalm, David repeatedly describes the Lord as good and having dealt well with him, even though David experienced personal suffering. In what ways has God been good to you? Can you say He’s been good to you even amid suffering? Why, or why not?

How has God used suffering in your life to draw you into a deeper relationship with Him?

Not only does a life surrendered to God redeem our experiences with suffering, but it also opens our eyes to the role God gives us to play in His redeeming work. What are some of the unique qualities God has given to you? In what ways could you use those qualities for His glory and purposes?

Respond

We will all face times of difficulty and suffering in our lives. It’s an inescapable part of living in a fallen world. But God’s Word is a continual reminder of God’s faithfulness to His people—regardless of our circumstances. Turn to His Word for refreshment and allow Him to encourage your heart through the truths He has revealed in Scripture.

Each day this week, make it a point to ask that God would use the circumstances of your life to create in you a greater dependence on Him.

About this Plan

Psalm 119 With Matt Chandler: A 10-Day RightNow Media Devotional

Even the most mature believers face dark nights of the soul. During those times God seems distant, his Word feels dry, and the vibrant intimacy we knew before seems absent leaving us wondering, “Where is the Lord in this?” In Psalm 119, Matt Chandler aims to introduce viewers to the words of King David who experienced similar seasons of life. Serving as the anchor for the study, Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers and its ability to provide a warm blanket for the soul.
