Bold Faith, Bigger Grace

Scripture: “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” —Matthew 15:27 (NIV)

Jesus had just stepped into Gentile territory when she showed up—bold, uninvited, and laser-focused. A desperate mom whose daughter was suffering. This wasn’t her community, and technically, not her Messiah. But that didn’t stop her.

She begged Jesus for help. And at first? Crickets.

Then Jesus gave what sounded like a spiritual side-eye (could that be interpreted as: sass?):

“It’s not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

Now—this is where most of us would’ve muttered “Wow, okay” and backed away slowly.

But not her.

She clapped back with faith: “Even the dogs get crumbs.” Translation? “I don’t need the whole buffet. Just give me a crumb of what You’ve got, and that’s more than enough.”

Jesus was shook—in the best way. He celebrated her persistence. He recognized her strength. He admired her faith. And He healed her daughter right there on the spot. Hebrews 11:6 echoes this kind of tenacity: “He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Sometimes faith looks like polite prayers. But sometimes? It’s holy sass and fierce hope that won’t leave without a blessing. Take heart: Jesus isn’t offended by bold faith. He’s moved by it.

What are you afraid to ask for because you don’t feel “spiritual enough”? What if boldness is the very thing Jesus has modeled and is inviting?
