It’s completely natural to want to accomplish things on our own. If we think about it, that kind of independent streak probably started at a young age. Who among us hasn’t heard “I can do it” come from a small child learning to do things for themselves? Even as adults, many of us are quick to reject any form of help or assistance to make it completely on our own. And while there’s no shame in wanting to do things for yourself, that can only get you so far. At some point, you’ll probably need the help of another person to help you accomplish a task or goal. And when it comes to our spiritual lives, there is no way to reach salvation through our works or good deeds.
No matter how good we are, how independent or strong, we are no match for the sin that works to weigh us down. Instead of trying to earn or create our salvation, Jesus has that eternal gift just waiting for us. All we have to do is ask and salvation is freely given. There are no hoops to jump through, no impossible goal to reach first. Just humbly going before the Lord is all it takes to find freedom from the storms that threaten to hold us back.

About this Plan
We all experience storms—not just physical storms but also storms due to personal circumstances. Our lives are suddenly hit with waves of scary decisions or are rocked by situations completely out of our control. We’ll discover what it looks like when God uses storms to get our attention, to help us see how God can use the storms of life in unexpected ways, and also remind ourselves and each other that, even in the eye of a terrible storm, we are never alone.
