Day 3 – Praising in Advance
"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21)
Praising in advance is a powerful principle of faith. We often think of praise as a response to a blessing we have already received, but true faith is revealed when we choose to praise God even before we see the fulfillment of His promise.
Stefania shared that in the most difficult moments of her life—when everything seemed to be working against her—she chose to worship God before seeing the breakthrough she longed for. “I had nothing certain before me,” she said, “but I was certain that God would not leave me in the state of need I was living in.”
Praising God in the midst of difficulty means declaring that He is faithful and that His promises for us remain true, even when we have yet to see them come to pass. It means recognizing that He is good and sovereign, regardless of what our eyes can see.
This principle is powerfully illustrated in the story of Job. Job 1:21 says, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job’s worship was not dependent on his circumstances but on the certainty that God was still God—sovereign and faithful—even in the midst of his deepest pain.
Praising in advance is a vital and powerful spiritual practice because it shifts our perspective. It takes our focus off our current struggles and fixes it on the greatness of God, opening our hearts to receive His intervention in His perfect timing.
Practical Tips for Praising God in Difficulties:
- Focus on God’s goodness, not your circumstances.
- Write a list of blessings – Reflect on what God has already done in your life. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- Declare God’s promises over your situation.
Prayer:
Lord, I choose to praise You even when I don’t yet see the answer. Even when everything around me feels uncertain, I want to worship You with all my heart because You are always worthy. Help me shift my focus from my struggles to Your sovereignty, to praise You not just after the victory but in the midst of the battle. I believe You are already working, even if I can’t see it yet. Amen.
