Built for More: A Man’s Guide to Strength & Purpose

DAY 6 OF 7

Let All That You Do Be Done in Love

At the core of biblical manhood is love. True strength, courage, and leadership are meaningless if they’re not grounded in love. Paul’s words remind us that love must drive everything we do—not a superficial or self-serving love, but a sacrificial, Christ-like love that puts others first. Biblical love is not a feeling; it’s a choice to act with compassion, empathy, and humility, even when it’s difficult.

A man who leads in love prioritizes the needs of others. Whether it’s his spouse, children, coworkers, or friends, he seeks to protect, encourage, and serve those around him. Love requires selflessness, which often means setting aside personal desires for the sake of someone else’s well-being. Jesus modeled this perfectly when He washed His disciples' feet—a task reserved for servants—just hours before His crucifixion.

Loving well also means listening and understanding. As Peter writes in 1 Peter 3:7, husbands are called to “live with [their] wives in an understanding way.” This involves taking the time to understand their unique personalities, struggles, and needs. Love isn’t about fixing people; it’s about walking with them through their challenges and offering grace and support.

Men who love well also show tenderness and empathy. In a world that often equates manhood with stoicism or aggression, empathy is a radical and Christ-like quality. Empathy means stepping into someone else’s shoes, feeling their pain, and responding with compassion. Through this kind of love, men reflect God's heart to the world.

Finally, love leaves a legacy. A man who loves well will impact not only his immediate family but generations to come. His children will grow up knowing they are valued and cared for. His wife will feel cherished and supported. His community will see a reflection of Christ through his actions.

Reflection

  1. How can you prioritize sacrificial love in your relationships?
  2. Are there areas where you’ve struggled to lead with love?
  3. What does it look like to reflect Christ’s love in your daily actions?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
