Why was Jesus almost thrown off a cliff?

The crowd in Nazareth loved the first part of Jesus’ talk. He used the prophet Isaiah to announce that he was the Messiah or ‘anointed one.’ But then he told stories from the Old Testament about when God’s people rejected the prophets and missed out on God’s gifts. Instead, it was non-Jewish outsiders – a foreign widow and a Syrian official – who received God’s help. This made the crowd in Nazareth angry and nearly got Jesus killed.
