Walk This Wayનમૂનો

Rooted in Christ
A healthy walk with Christ involves being “rooted” in Him. Merriam-Webster defines being rooted in something as being “formed, made, or developed by using (something) as a basis.” We all have roots. However, we often become rooted in things of the world that can only give us temporary fulfillment when we can be rooted in the One who can fulfill us forever.
As believers, our roots need to be rooted not in the world but in Christ Jesus. Being rooted in Him is so much more than a decision we make; it is an active daily process we do to grow in our relationship with the Lord.
Paul sets forth in Colossians 2:6-7 the steps to achieving a healthy walk with Christ:
- Receive Him: The first step we must take is to receive the gift that Jesus has given us and accept what He has done for us.
- Walk in Him: Once we have taken that step in receiving Him, walking in Him means ensuring that our thoughts, actions, and conversations reflect the decisions we made. It means not walking alone but walking through life alongside Him.
- Be Rooted and Built Up in Him: If our roots or foundation are in Christ Jesus, we can continually build up our faith, grow in our relationships, and develop into who Christ calls us to be.
- Be Established in the Faith: When we are established in our faith, it is unwavering. No matter what trials, struggles, or hardships that life throws at us, we believe deep down to our core that He is in control and are confident in our faith in Him.
- Abound in Gratitude: We then must come with a heart of gratitude, thanking Jesus for who He is, what He has done, and the incredible change that He has made in our lives.
The question we must ask ourselves is this, “In what are we rooted?” Are we rooted in things that will satisfy us for a bit or on the One who will always satisfy? If we have roots in things in the world, are we willing to uproot our lives for the One who saves us?
Reflect & Pray
Jesus, thank You for who You are and the opportunity we have to grow in You. As we deepen our roots in You, may we walk with You daily and grow more and more in love with You every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
