Here is how this promise points forward, it is to do with a crazy fact about Zerubbabel: he was the great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandfather of Joseph, Mary’s husband and Jesus’ “father”, or maybe a better term is step-father!

So the promise given to Zerubbabel, as a representative of the line of David, is an example of everything else Haggai’s message has been about - As the people and their leaders obey to build the Temple, God is working to bring about things that are beyond imagining. This is the message of Haggai and why it is so important for the Church today. When we obey the work God has put in front of us, God works in ways that we could never imagine; our role is obedience. Last week we looked at these three things: reflection, obedience, and work. Let’s reflect on that again today.
