When I Feel I'm Not Good Enough
The Lion of Judah
God calls Himself the God of Judah. Judah is the kind of man whose name no one wants in his genealogy. Genesis 38, some of us will not even read to our older children. He's not the kind of man you'd love to have for a father or a grandfather. Look at his history: He married a Canaanite woman against the wishes of his parents; his eldest child is so wicked that God already killed him at a young age. After that, Judah slept with a woman he thought was a prostitute, but that was his daughter-in-law. And this child born of incest was Peres. In the genealogy of Jesus (Matthew 1:2-3), we read: "Jacob the father of Judah, Judah the father of Peres." God does not "silence" Judah, Tamar and Peres' story. It's part of God's story with broken people.
God is not embarrassed by Judah and his wickedness. Jesus is called the Lion from the tribe of Judah. Read Revelation 5:5 – Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion from the tribe of Judah, the Descendant of David, has won the victory and may open the book with the seven seals." Think carefully about what is written here. Judah's life did not destroy God's plan for him and his descendants.
