Job is not necessarily a happy story. Job was a faithful believer in God, and because of his strong faith, the devil wanted to use him to prove that faith only exists when a person is happy and wealthy. Over some time, Job not only lost his wife and children, but he lost all the wealth and prestige he possessed. Everyone, including his closest friends, thought that Job should be angry at God for all that he had lost. And yet even in his suffering, Job still praised the Lord. All the wealth in the world could not compare to the love and devotion he had for God. Job knew that he could take comfort and trust in the knowledge that he was loved by a God who would never leave him.
Take a second to think about where you keep your Bible. Is it tucked away in a bookshelf, or maybe even a little lost under a pile of books you’ve been meaning to read? Do you see it as a treasure you get to open again and again, or does it feel more like a homework assignment you have to complete to feel like you’ve done your duty as a Christian? This week, keep your Bible in a place where you pass by it daily and challenge yourself to read a bit every day.
