The Angel Visits Mary

As a midwife and a mother, the story of God choosing to come into the world as a baby is both wonderful and incredible. I marvel at the vulnerability of eternal salvation being delivered in the raw humanness of birth. God incarnate totally dependent on a woman for growth in the womb, and newborn life.

Before the pregnancy, there was a conversation that Mary had with an angel. She was shaken at first (it seems anyone in the Bible who had an angelic visitation was initially terrified), but then Mary seems to have a glimpse into God’s amazing plan that she was being invited into. This part of the plan would have seemed impossible in the natural and yet this gutsy teenage girl gives her yes to serving God.

That simple commitment in faith to God literally birthed God’s salvation plan for all humanity for all time.

Mary’s faithful ‘yes’ inspires me and I hope it inspires you to look out for God’s invitations small or big, to join in the plan He has for all of humanity to know they are loved by God.
