He Chose Us

This episode opens with a scene from Genesis: Jacob has bought a piece of land and his sons are digging a well.

A local man watches and scoffs, "You're not going to find water here." As they talk, the man struggles to understand Jacob’s faith. Why serve an invisible God? A God whose promises take generations? A God who breaks your hip?

Jacob’s reply cuts through the confusion: "We did not choose Him ... He chose us."

Centuries later, that same well becomes the setting for another divine encounter. The very place where someone once doubted water could be found becomes the place where Living Water is revealed. Jesus stops there intentionally as he passes through Samaria in order to meet a woman whose life is marked by rejection.

He tells her, “Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst. Indeed, it will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Just as Jacob had been chosen, so is this woman. And so are you. Ephesians 1 reminds us that before the foundation of the world, God chose us to be His children – loved, seen, and adopted into His family.

Maybe you have felt overlooked or unworthy, wondering if God could truly choose someone like you. But the same God who sought out Jacob and the Samaritan woman still seeks hearts today. He meets us in unexpected places, offering not just water to drink, but life to overflow.

• What does it mean to you that God chose you before you chose Him?
• Have there been moments when you felt unseen or unworthy? How might Jesus be meeting you there today?

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for choosing me. Thank You for meeting me in unexpected places and offering living water that never runs dry. Help me to rest in being known, chosen, and loved by You. Amen.
