What’s Jesus All About?

Welcome to this five-day devotional, where we will be exploring the question, ‘Why Easter?’ To kick us off we are going to start with the main character in the Easter story; Jesus! Today we’re going to be asking the question ‘What’s Jesus all about?’

I wonder what first comes to mind when you hear the name ‘Jesus’. Take a moment now just to close your eyes and think of Jesus – what did you see?

It might be that Jesus reminds you of school assemblies or nativity plays. Maybe Jesus reminds you of church services or Sunday school. Or maybe you’ve never really thought about Jesus and, like many others, you’re just wondering what Jesus is all about!

In today’s verse we have a story where Jesus tells us what he is all about. He says he is ‘the bread of life’. In other words, Jesus says that he is the answer to all our needs and can bring us satisfaction, fulfilment, meaning and purpose.

You may have noticed that everyone seems to be looking for something or someone who can make them feel complete. Some people look for fulfilment in a career or a relationship, whereas for others it could be the pursuit of the best grades or the achievement of a specific goal.

The actor Jim Carrey was once famously quoted as saying, ‘I think everyone should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer’.

So, if fame and money and achieving our dreams isn’t the answer, then what is? What is there in this world that can satisfy us completely?

Today’s verse tells us that Jesus is the answer. At Easter we remember that Jesus is the one who offers us a relationship with God, through his death and resurrection. Jesus is the one who offers to meet all of our needs and teach us what the meaning of life is really all about.
