COMFORTING WORDS
In the next chapter, Ruth finds herself on the other side of kindness. Boaz, a landowner invites her to pick up grain from his fields and drink water from his well (Ruth 2:8, NLT). Yet it was not the generous provision of food that touched Ruth's heart.
Ruth found comfort in the way Boaz spoke to her. "'I hope I continue to please you, sir, 'she replied. 'You have comforted me by speaking so kindly to me, even though I am not one of your workers'" (Ruth 2:13, NLT). The exact words that Boaz used did not matter as much as how he spoke them to Ruth.
Do you sometimes avoid people who are going through a rough time because you don't know what to say? The words do not matter as much as you think. The way you speak brings its own wonderful message of love.
"If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly" (Romans 12:8, NLT).
Reach out to others just as you are. Christ's kindness in your heart will do the work. Don't let your fear of saying the wrong thing keep you from comforting others
