There's Hope For Todayનમૂનો

Four hours had passed since the stricken submarine ground to a halt on the bottom of the Barents Sea. Twenty-three sailors held slim hopes of rescue in the cold silence of the after compartment. Ninety-five shipmates were already dead. Who can imagine the horror of those last dark moments in the Oscar-class Russian submarine Kursk?

Waiting in the dark, Lt. Dmitry Kolesnikov wrote by touch. “It seems there is no chance, 10-20 percent. We hope that at least someone will read this.” And then later, “Hello to everyone, mustn’t despair.”

Dmitry’s last thoughts were for those left behind. His brave message, found in his pocket, was beamed all over Russia and around the world. When I first heard it on a newscast, the scene it suggested tugged at my heartstrings. The more I thought of it, I found myself wishing that Dmitry could have said, “I’ll see you again one day soon.” Had he ever heard of Jesus? Had he any understanding of eternal life? Could anyone in the after compartment have offered a prayer?
