The apostle Paul tells his readers, “We must suffer many things on our way into God’s kingdom” (Acts 14:22). Reading the book of Acts or hearing testimonies from Christians all over the world, these words are proven true. Believers face opposition and persecution. Maybe you experience affliction yourself. God created humans “in His image.” This means that in a sense we resemble our Creator. But to what extent is this still true? And to what extent has sin broken this image of God? This reading plan examines various attributes of God and how they are reflected in us.

“It’s complicated”—that is probably an apt way to describe the relationship between Paul and the church in Corinth. His first letter was met with resistance: some rejected his criticism and even questioned his authority. Paul traveled to Corinth in person—a painful visit. After he returned, he wrote a severe letter in tears. The church responded: many repented. Paul heard about this from Titus and wrote again—our Second Letter to the Corinthians. It is a testimony to genuine reconciliation, to love that has been hurt, and to the divine power that can heal even broken relationships, even today.

It doesn’t matter if you have been downsized, laid off or outsourced, let go or fired. The pain is real, and the terrible toll of fear, anger, confusion, and uncertainty that happens when a person’s world collapses around him or her is much more than a statistical reality. It is just real. We pray that these devotionals will be used by Him to bring you hope and encouragement.
