A Prayer for the Hearts of Victims and Survivors
“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.” – Mother Teresa
Dear Compassionate Father,
I thank you that you are the God who sees. (Gen. 16:13) Though a mother may forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne, you will not forget us! (Isa. 49:15) You are gracious and righteous and full of compassion. (Ps. 116:5) Today I pray for the many victims and survivors of sexual exploitation, who have believed the lies that they are unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and altogether forgotten.
You are the God of all comfort. (2 Cor. 1:2-4) I pray that your Holy Spirit will penetrate the hearts of these precious ones, guiding them into all truth, including the reality of your abounding love. (Ps. 25:5; John 16:13; Exod. 34:6) You set the lonely in families and lead out the prisoners with singing. (Ps. 68:6) Bring healing to the wounded heart of every survivor and surround them with life-giving community, counsel, and care in Abolition’s aftercare programs and beyond. I thank you for your plan of redemption, which is already unfolding in their lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
