The Wisdom of God and the Wisdom of the World
Every day, we are surrounded by influences that try to shape how we think and live. Social trends, opinions, and entertainment often push us toward ideas that sound right but lead us away from God’s truth. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live differently. We are called to live by the wisdom of God.
The wisdom of the world encourages people to chase comfort, success, and personal recognition. It tells us that the self comes first. Yet God’s wisdom points in the opposite direction. It teaches us to serve, to forgive, and to trust God’s plan even when it does not make sense.
1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their own craftiness.
The wisdom of God may not always look impressive to the world, but it produces peace, integrity, and strength. When Jesus lived on earth, He constantly showed this difference. He chose humility instead of pride, truth instead of popularity, and compassion instead of revenge.
Imagine two builders. One uses cheap materials because they are quick to find. The other takes time to build carefully on a strong foundation. The first house may look good at first, but when the storm comes, only the second will stand. God’s wisdom is that second foundation. It lasts when the noise of culture fades.
Living by God’s wisdom means checking your decisions against His Word. It means asking, “Does this please God or only people?” The more you fill your heart with Scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you, the less the world can pull you off course.
You cannot walk in both directions at once. Choosing God’s wisdom often sets you apart, but it also sets you free. It fills your life with clarity and purpose that trends can never offer.
Reflections
- What areas of your life are shaped more by culture than by God’s Word?
- How can you practice godly wisdom in your relationships and choices?
- What truth from Scripture can you hold on to when culture pressures you to conform?
Prayer
Father, I ask for Your wisdom today. Teach me to see life from Your point of view and to make decisions that honour You. Help me to stand firm in truth even when the world moves in another direction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
