CULTIVATE GRATITUDE
As you look back on the past year, you’ll likely find a mix of good, bad, and everything in between. Life is rarely all one thing—it’s a tapestry of moments, each with its own weight and meaning.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (AMPC) is so challenging in this regard: "Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]."
Why would God ask us to give thanks in everything? Notice—it doesn’t say for everything. Gratitude is not denial; it’s a posture. It shifts our focus from what’s missing to what God is doing. And here’s the truth: you can’t complain and be thankful at the same time. Gratitude silences grumbling and opens your heart to God’s presence.
Psalm 100:4-5 (MSG) puts it beautifully: " Enter with the password: " Thank you!" Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him. For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever."
The truth is you already have access to God. By cultivating a lifestyle of thanksgiving you become more aware of His beauty, His presence, His love and loyalty in your life.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that there is no distance between us. As I look back on this year, I see Your fingerprints—Your presence, Your loyalty, Your love. I choose gratitude today, and I celebrate You. Amen.
Action steps:
1. Make a list of things that you are thankful for.
2. Share 2-3 stories with someone else to celebrate God's goodness today.
