How Heaven Answers When We Worship

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: Worship Unlocks God’s Promises

Worship is a wonderful opportunity we have – a space where we can give God all the glory and honor He rightfully deserves. When we use our own mouths and actions to pour out praise for Him, we have the wonderful guarantee that He will give back so generously.

This reminds me of Noah, right after he exited the ark. Once he and his family were on dry land, Noah built an altar and sacrificed to God, and so many amazing things came out of that moment of worship.

When God received the offering, the first thing He said was a promise that He would never flood the earth again. I love that, because if God hadn’t said that, can you imagine how terrified they would have been the next time it rained? But because of Noah’s worship, God relieved that anxiety, and He even put a rainbow in the sky to remind everyone of His promise, and friend, I want you to realize that it has been thousands of years, and God has kept His promise. Thousands of years later, that rainbow is still in the sky.

After that, the Lord opened provision to Noah and his family by giving them food from all of the animals on the earth, and then He gave them the amazing command “be fruitful and multiply.”

For many years, I thought that verse was just talking about Noah and his family having babies to replenish the earth, but as I was studying it, I realized that this is a command that God gives to all of us, and it isn’t limited to babies. What kind of mind do you have? What kind of gifts do you have? What possessions do you have? Well, this command says to be fruitful and multiply all those things!

It’s like Jesus’s parable about the servants. Remember, the one who had five talents used them and multiplied them, and he was praised for it and entrusted with even more, but the one who had just one talent was too afraid to use it. He hid it away, and he was called a wicked servant. Friend, it's not God's will for you and I to just hold in what it is He's given us — We need to spread it in the world and multiply it!

This is a powerful instruction, and where did it come from? It came out of Noah’s worship. Worship is our appropriate response to God’s holiness, and when we do it, He will pour out promises and blessings for us in ways we cannot imagine.

For Your Consideration

  • Worship is so powerful, and it doesn’t have to be hard. Get in a place without distractions and just open up the book of Psalms. Pick one out and just start saying it aloud to God.
  • What purposes might God open up to you if you poured out worship to Him?
  • Did you know your worship is a sweet aroma to the Lord? How does that knowledge change the way you think about and practice worship for Him?

About this Plan

How Heaven Answers When We Worship

God has promises for you all throughout the Bible, and one of the best ways that you can activate those promises is by going to a place of complete worship. In this 5-day reading plan, Denise Renner uses biblical examples to reveal the ways worship can bring blessings into our lives.
