FASTING: It’s Not About You!Näide

You Can Do This!
When you fast, you should commit to abstaining from the thing(s) that the Lord wants you to fast. On top of that, commit to reading the Bible daily (hearing from Him), praying to God daily (talking with Him), and worshiping God daily (singing to Him). If that means getting up a little earlier or going to bed a little later, watching one less tv show—whatever it is, make it happen. It’s necessary to prioritize, forever and always, the One who gave it all for us, the One that is Love Himself.
Fasting doesn’t always mean giving up food. There are many things you can choose to fast that will allow you to focus on God more than you usually do. Your heart behind fasting should be to temporarily give up something that is actually a sacrifice to give up, in order to focus on God more.
With that being said, I’m sick of my flesh and its sinful nature. I’m ready to deny my self (flesh), pick up my cross, and follow Jesus like never before (see Matthew 16:24). The death of my flesh will be the result. Who’s with me?
As you are fasting, you must realize that this fast isn’t about you. Though we will benefit and receive freedom from the Holy Spirit as a result of this fast, it still isn’t about us. It’s about realizing that God is absolutely everything we need, that we can do nothing without Him (see John 15:5-6), that we are nothing without Him, and yet in Him, we are precious sons and daughters of the Most High.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)
