REDEEM: A Journey of Healing Through Divorce and Addiction

DAY 2 OF 4

Being married to someone battling addiction can slowly chip away at who you are. I spent years trying to hold everything together, losing myself in the chaos, living in codependency and survival mode. Along the way, I picked up labels I was never meant to wear: Enabler. Fixer. Not enough. Too much. Invisible. Unworthy.

Each of these labels whispered lies, weighing me down and covering up the truth of who I really was. But God has been peeling them off, one by one, and replacing them with His truth.

This reminds me of Gideon in Judges 6. When God first called Gideon, he saw himself as the weakest and least in his family. He did not see himself as a leader, and definitely not as a warrior. The label he carried was insignificant. But God spoke a new identity over him: “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” (Judges 6:12, NIV)

Just like Gideon, I had to learn that my worth was not found in my circumstances or the labels I carried, but instead in the truth of who God says I am. He calls me chosen. He calls me beloved. He calls me redeemed.

Piece by piece, He’s giving me back myself. Not the woman who walks on eggshells but the woman who walks in peace. Not the woman who begs for change but the woman who knows her worth.

Reflection: What lies about your identity did addiction and heartbreak try to plant? Ask God to replace them with truth.
