Don´t Lose Hope

DAY 2 OF 6

Hope is different to faith

Hope is not the same as faith, because Faith gives you the certainty that you already have your miracle. On the other hand, hope is what in the midst of times of tribulation and darkness, gives you a small inner anticipation that although you don't know how or when, God will do something.

Let's look at the case of Paul, who was sent by the Holy Spirit on a mission journeying out to preach to the Gentile world. He wanted to go preach to Asia, but the Lord forbade him as it was the time for Macedonia. The Lord then appears to him in a dream and tells him to go, and on arrival at Philippi, he preaches to some women who in turn believe and are baptized.

Paul went and taught every day, but there was a woman who would cry out every time they passed by, for she had a spirit of divination. Paul, being annoyed by this, rebuked the unclean spirit out of the woman. When her masters saw this, they were very angry as they could no longer profit from the woman. Because of this, they brought Paul and Silas before the magistrates, tore their clothes and beat them with rods. They were then taken to prison and placed in the innermost cell, shackled by their hands and feet.

Paul and Silas were in a pagan place with no one to turn to or ask for help. But, they had this little expectation in their hearts called Hope. At around midnight, they began to sing praises to God when suddenly, a great earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, and all the doors were opened and the chains were loosed. Even then they did not escape, but preached to the keeper of the prison, who believed that same night and was baptized alongside his entire family. The next day, they were released.

That is called Hope. It's not about pretending there aren't any problems, but about trusting that even though you don't know how or when, God is going to do something.
