Stand for Truth Like Daniel and His Friends

DAY 2 OF 3

King Nebuchadnezzar was a violent and dangerous man. In his time, he was the most powerful person who lived.

One word from him and a nation could be besieged, a people enslaved, a life ended. It would be foolish not to be afraid of him.

However, there was someone that Daniel and his friends feared even more: the God of Heaven.

We often read quickly through this passage because we are so familiar with it. But take a moment to think about the environment Daniel found himself in, all those miles from Jerusalem. Daniel and his friends were embedded among the elite of the nations.

They were in the center of power and influence, where nothing seemed impossible. The king and his court were remaking the world, conquering kingdoms, shaping a society in their own likeness.

But a dream in the night threatened to overturn all their plans and plays for power.

Everyone around the king sought advantage. The magicians used dark spiritual power and falsehoods. A dream in the night that God sent Nebuchadnezzar started to upend all of that, as Heaven began to bring its kingdom right in the midst of the Babylonian royal court.

There was something about Daniel that when trouble came, when spiritual matters needed to be discerned, people turned to him. They sought him out. How incredible!

Daniel didn’t have the ability to understand the dream, but he knew God could give it. With his three faithful friends, they believed God could do anything, even get them out of the impossible situation to get both the dream the king experienced and its meaning.

This absolute trust in God, even when faced with fear, threats, pressure, and danger, set Daniel and his friends apart. They stood in the truth that they didn’t need to depend on their own ability or strength, but could confidently rest in God’s.

Reflection

Am I resting in God’s strength?

Think about ways you’re putting confidence in God and His power in your circumstances. Where do you need to rest? Where do you need to stand firm?

Prayer

Thank you, God of heaven and earth, that I can rest in You. It is such a relief that I can lean into Your strength and don’t have to have all the answers. You do, and I trust You. Today, I turn my heart and my circumstances over to You. Please guide me and reveal Your will and ways.
