Baptism in Context

Water baptism is a “physical act expressing a spiritual truth” that is encompassed in the power of the Father. It is a powerful demonstration of us dying in our OLD life and beginning a NEW life. That’s it, plain and simple. You are totally identifying with Christ now in these ways:

1. As Christ died for sin, your baptism proclaims that you, too, have died to sin. As you go into the water and are completely immersed, the burial of your old, sinful life is what is being enacted. Your old, sinful nature is left (buried) under the water, and you are then raised up into a new life in Jesus!

Romans 6:3 teaches, “Have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined Him in His death?”

2. In water baptism, you are declaring that you will live for Jesus as His disciple. This means that the person being baptised is literally letting the people in his/her world know that they are going to live for Christ alone!

Galatians 2:20 says, “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
