DAY FOUR — You Can’t Do It By Yourself
Moses was trying to do it all—judging every dispute, solving every problem, carrying the weight of an entire nation. His father-in-law Jethro wisely told him, “What you are doing is not good. … The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.” (Exodus 18:17–18).
God never intended us to carry life’s burdens in isolation. He provides community, wisdom, and shared leadership to keep us from burning out. Even the strongest leaders need help.
The lesson is simple but powerful: you can’t do it all by yourself. And you don’t have to—God designed us to depend on Him and on each other.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- Where in your life are you trying to carry too much on your own?
- Who has God placed in your life to share the load with you?
- How can humility open the door to healthier rhythms of life and leadership?

About this Plan

THE PROMISED LAND and Milk and Honey Productions have created this plan to help individuals and groups engage the story of Exodus and Leviticus in a fresh way. In this 30-day devotional, you’ll see clips from THE PROMISED LAND, read passages of Scripture, and reflect on questions that connect Israel’s journey to your own walk of faith. Through humor, reverence, and honesty, we’ll discover that God uses ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
