Faith Formation Framework Series 3: Faith Applied Through Service and JusticeNäide

Faith in Action
Focus
Gratitude: Thank God for one opportunity you’ve had to serve someone else.
Listen
Scripture: James 2:17 (NRSV)
"So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."
Reflection:
Faith is not meant to stay tucked inside hearts or locked within church walls. The good news of Jesus calls us into the world—to act, to serve, to bring healing where there is harm and hope where there is despair. Young people learn faith not only by what they hear but by what they do. Service helps them see that their small acts of care are part of God's much larger work of restoration. Each time we feed the hungry, comfort the hurting, or speak for justice, we help create the kind of world God dreams of—a world where love is active.
Apply
Where can you invite a young person to serve alongside you this week?
Respond
Jesus, may my faith come alive through acts of compassion. Teach me to guide young people into your work of healing and justice in the world.

About this Plan

Faith becomes real when it moves beyond words and into action. This third part of the Faith Formation Framework invites us to guide young people toward a faith that engages the world—meeting real needs, serving with compassion, and seeking justice. When youth discover that their gifts, voices, and presence can make a difference, they begin to live out their faith in powerful ways. Adults are called not only to serve these youth but to serve alongside them, embodying a faith that is active, courageous, and rooted in love.
