When Hope Hurts: Miscarriage and FaithNäide

Rebuild on Your Ruins; Don’t Hide Your Brokenness
According to the NHS, around 1 in 8 known pregnancies will end in miscarriage.
Tommy’s miscarriage and baby loss charity found that half (50%) of UK adults said that they, or someone they know, had experienced pregnancy or baby loss.
These statistics aren’t meant to make us feel better.
But they remind us that nobody escapes being wounded and that we often sit among the wounded.
We are all wounded people, whether physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.
But we serve a God who is able to redeem our past wounds for a glorious future.
Isaiah 58:12 (NIV) says God will “rebuild on ruins” and “repair broken walls.”
It doesn’t say He will demolish the ruins or throw away the broken walls.
Those ruins and broken walls are redeemed and grafted into His design to build something unique and beautiful.
In a sermon, my pastor, Reverend Richard Marzetti, used the example of Japanese kintsugi pottery to illustrate this. In this art form, broken pieces are joined with gold lacquer, making the repaired item even more beautiful than before. In the same way, our brokenness is bound together and restored by the sacrifice of Jesus.
So, though you may feel broken beyond repair right now, and though you may want to hide your wounds from everyone, including God, remember: God desires to enter your wounds and rebuild you for His glory.

About this Plan

Miscarriage is a wound that is often carried in silence, but with a heart full of questions. In this devotional, I share a journey of two miscarriages and the lament, doubt, faith and the hope that followed. Whether you’ve experienced a miscarriage or are walking alongside someone who has, I pray that through honest lament and hope restored, you will encounter the God who sees, heals and rebuilds from the ruins.
