What Does the Bible Say About Therapy?
Key Scripture: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Needing help isn’t weakness—it’s human. Mental health struggles are real, and God cares deeply about them. Therapy doesn’t replace faith; it can be one of the ways God provides healing. Just as we seek doctors for broken bones, we can seek wise counselors for hurting hearts. Healing comes through Christ—and He often uses people to help us along the way.
Live It Challenge: If you’re struggling, reach out to someone safe—whether a counselor, pastor, or trusted friend. Post Romans 12:12 as a reminder that even in hard times, we can rejoice in hope and be patient in trials.
Reflection Questions:
- Why do you think some Christians feel hesitant or even ashamed to talk about mental health or therapy?
- Romans 12:12 tells us to “be patient in tribulation.” What does patience look like when you're in the middle of a mental or emotional struggle?
- Is there someone in your life (a pastor, counselor, or mentor) you could talk to if you needed help? What would it take to reach out to them?
Additional Scripture:
- Romans 12:12
- Ephesians 5:13-14
- James 5:16
- Matthew 18:20
