Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper PraiseNäide

Hi there, it’s Tiffany Hudson from Elevation Worship and I am excited to bring you today’s Scripture from Ephesians 5:18-19 (NIV).

“...Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”

This Scripture gives us a beautiful picture of what it means to be filled with the Spirit. Paul is encouraging the church of Ephesus to “not be drunk with wine, but instead be filled with the Spirit.” I love that this journey of walking with God is not just a list of things not to do, but it’s a charge of what to do instead.

Instead of letting gossip come from our mouths, we can let hymns and songs of the Spirit come forth. Instead of speaking words of grumbling, we can speak words of gratitude.

I love the perspective-changing power that worship has had in my life. I’ve had days that I’ve felt discouraged, but the minute I start walking around my house singing hymns and worship songs, something shifts in my heart. I begin to let the Holy Spirit fill my heart and my confession.

There are moments where my mind feels really anxious, but as I begin to sing the truth of God’s word, I feel my worries start to fade away - just like the old hymn says “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

What comes out of our mouths is a direct reflection of what we’re filled with. If we are filled with the Spirit, then even on the hard days, we have a song we can sing.

Ask yourself today, “What area of pain can I replace with praise?” “What struggle with sin can be replaced with a song?” Instead of “_______,” be FILLED with the Spirit.

My prayer for the body of Christ is that we would let the Holy Spirit do a deep work in us. That we would be the type of community that is able to uplift and encourage one another with psalms, hymns, and songs of the Spirit.
