Three Years in 30 Days: Jesus' Life and MissionNäide

I am … the true vine
“I am the true vine” (John 15:1 ESV)
Do you sometimes find it difficult to stay connected to Jesus? Using an example, Jesus illustrated how His followers were connected to Him and how important that was for them.
A vine produces branches on which grapes grow. A branch draws its strength to bear fruit from the vine. For a vineyard keeper, the fruit-bearing branches are the crowning glory of his work.
In the first part of the Bible, Israel was called a vineyard that, despite God's care, did not produce the fruit God desired (Isaiah 5:1-4). Jesus, as the true Vine, was able to fulfill God's desire. Through their connection with Him, His followers bear fruit. That fruit includes faith, love, peace, patience, and gentleness (Galatians 5:22-23).
Fruit are the qualities that you develop as a believer. When you are connected to Jesus, it is His power that develops these qualities in you, makes them visible, and allows them to grow further. In this way, those around us can see what it means to believe in Jesus. In this way, we bring joy to Jesus and His Father, and we can also be a joy and a blessing to those around us.
Read John 15:1-8.
- Why is it important to remain connected to Jesus?
- How is your connection with Him at this point in your life?
- In what areas would you like to grow more?
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for giving me everything I need to live as Your follower. Help me to make room for You every day. Amen.
