The Burning Altar - 14 Days of Calling the Church to Pray

DAY 7 OF 14

Revival Begins on Our Knees

“Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure.”- D.L. Moody

Every great move of God throughout history can be traced back to one posture—the church on her knees. Revival does not begin with church events, leadership strategies, or eloquent Sunday sermons. Revival is birthed when God’s people humble themselves in brokenness and desperation before the throne of God!

Knees bent in prayer signify surrender. They declare, “We cannot fabricate revival; we need the Holy Spirit to come down.” When the church bends low in surrender, heaven's touch draws near. When the church weeps in repentance, God pours out His mercy. When the church cries out with holy hunger, the Spirit ignites fresh fire.

Pentecost was preceded by an upper room filled with praying believers. The Great Awakenings began with hidden prayer meetings where a few refused to stop knocking on the door of heaven. In every generation, revival has been the fruit of intercession—ordinary men and women on their knees, crying out for an extraordinary move of God.

Revival is not simply more activity—it is the breath of God reviving His people to life! Prayer in return is the breath in our lungs in which we pour out our praise. On our knees, pride dies, unity is born, and the fire of God’s Holy Spirit falls. The posture of a praying church becomes the altar upon which God sends His glory. It is when we are on our knees!

Revival is not waiting for the world to change; it is waiting for the church to kneel. The greatest battles for souls, nations, and generations are won not by standing tall before men but by kneeling low before God.

Prayer

Lord God, bring us back to our knees. Forgive us for seeking revival without seeking You. Break our pride, stir our hunger, and teach us to cry out until heaven comes down. May Your church become a house of prayer, birthing revival that shakes the earth and glorifies Your name. Begin with me, O Lord—set me ablaze in the secret place of prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do I long for revival, or do I long for the God of revival?
  2. How can I cultivate humility and hunger by spending more time on my knees in prayer?
  3. Am I willing to tarry in prayer, even when revival seems delayed?
