When God Makes Things Right: A 5-Day Devotional on NahumNäide

Have you ever felt cornered—like everything around you is unfair, and there's nothing you can do about it? Maybe someone you care about is hurting, and you just want God to step in.
In Nahum’s day, the Assyrians were doing that—their cruelty and force were terrifying. But God reassured His people: He would bring down that power and bring them peace and safety once more.
But what’s amazing is that God isn’t only just — He’s also merciful.
At the cross, Jesus showed both sides of God’s character: He took the punishment for sin (justice) while offering forgiveness to anyone who believes (mercy). That means we can have confidence that God will deal with evil, but we don’t have to live in fear because His mercy covers us through Jesus. Is it hard for you to trust God’s justice and mercy at the same time?
Christ Connection
In Romans 5:8-9, we see God’s justice and mercy displayed on the cross for all who believe.
Ask
How can I live with confidence knowing Jesus is both just and merciful?
Pray
Lord, thank You for being both just and merciful. Thank You that evil doesn’t win in the end and that You protect Your people. At the same time, thank You for showing me mercy even though I don’t deserve it. Help me not to be afraid of Your justice but to find comfort in it, knowing You are good and fair. Give me confidence to live as Your child, trusting that You are always working for my good.
Try This
Spend some time reflecting on God’s mercy in your life. List some ways that you have rebelled against God and ways that you have seen God’s mercy in your life.

About this Plan

Life isn’t always fair — but God is. In the book of Nahum, God promises His people that He will deal with evil, bring justice, and restore hope. This 5-day plan will walk you through God’s justice, mercy, and holiness, and show how Jesus makes a way for us to live with peace instead of fear. If you’ve ever wondered whether God sees the wrongs in the world, Nahum is a powerful reminder that He does, and He makes all things right.
