Holy, Healthy, Whole: Growing Fruits of the Spirit for Weight Loss and Wellness

DAY 19 OF 30

Choose

Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’ Joshua 24:14-15 (NIV)

A few days ago, I received this email from a woman who found me on the website I own, The Holy Mess:

Sara,
I really admire your weight loss story. I’m a Christian, too, and I weigh over 200 pounds. I’m miserable about the state I’ve let myself get in. The trouble is, I really hate counting calories or points. I don’t want to think about food all the time like that.
What can I do?
Beverly

Here’s how I responded.

Hi Beverly!
Thanks for writing and sharing your experience with me. The truth is, you don’t have to count calories or points. As an adult, you have the freedom to make your own decisions.
But, you also state that you are miserable, so it's time to make a choice. Something will have to change. If not counting calories, what does feel doable to you in this life season?
The choice is yours.
Sara

You have a choice, too.

I'm not saying you have to count calories or points to lose weight, because you don't. But you do have to do something differently, and that won't be easy.

You can decide to do whatever it takes to serve and honor God with your eating choices, which includes even the things you might not like in the moment.

That means being faithful, even to the hard things.

What’s your choice?

Reflection: Today, will you choose to honor God with healthy choices? How so?

Prayer: Lord God, on this day, I choose to serve you. Amen.
