Day 2 — Seeking Help Is an Investment
One of the most precious currencies, and one we often underestimate, is the ability to seek wise counsel and help. We are surrounded by a culture that celebrates independence and self-sufficiency as signs of strength, yet, true growth does not come from “doing it alone,” but from the courage to seek and receive guidance, counsel, and encouragement.
For example, when we choose to turn to a mentor, a sister in faith, or a professional, we are making an intentional investment. This form of vulnerability does not weaken us, rather, it opens doors for new opportunities of growth.
Oftentimes, it is the right counsel – at just the right moment – that saves us from making a regretful mistake, or it is a word of encouragement that gives us the strength to rise again and keep moving forward.
Scripture reminds us that “victory is won through many advisers” (Proverbs 11:14, NIV). The original Hebrew word translated here as “victory” is teshuah, which literally means deliverance, success. This shows us that opening ourselves to the guidance and counsel of wise and experienced people brings not only protection, but real progress, breakthrough, and success.
Seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a pathway to growth and strength. This is why Moses needed Aaron to speak on his behalf to Pharaoh (Exodus 4:14–16), and Ruth leaned on Naomi as a reliable source of support during critical moments of her life (Ruth 3:1–5).
Seeking help is an intentional choice that protects us from the illusion of self-sufficiency and reminds us that we are part of one Body - called to support one another.
Take a moment to remember a time when you had the courage to ask for help: what impact did it have on your well-being or your choices? Is there an area of your life where you are hesitating to receive counsel or support? Why?
Prayer: Lord, grant me the humility to recognize my limits and the courage to ask for counsel or help when I need it. Surround me with wise people who can guide me with love and Truth. Teach me to see vulnerability not as a sign of weakness, but as a doorway to the maturity and transformation You have designed for me. Amen.
